Recently, I decided to take my family on a week-long vacation to Colorado. I had planned on spending most of our time exploring the city of Denver, but I made a small error during the booking process. Instead of staying in Denver, we wound up staying in the city of Westminster. At first, I was frustrated at my mistake, but it turned out to be the best possible mistake! The city is very close to Denver, which made it easy to travel into the city for shopping trips, dinners, or sports events. Westminster lies thirteen miles northwest of Denver, and only eighteen miles southeast of the city of Boulder. Since U.S. Route 36 runs right through Westminster, traveling outside of the city was super easy. There were tons of activities right in Westminster for us to do, especially for my husband. He loves to play golf, so he spent a lot of time exploring the two award-winning golf courses. Both Legacy Ridge and Heritage at Westmoor are championship-level 18-hole golf courses, so of course my husband was in heaven. I decided to spend my time hiking around the beautiful mountain trails, and I saw tons of lovely foliage, streams, and mountain vistas. Our kids spent a few days at the Butterfly Pavilion, which holds 1600 butterflies. Not only did they love seeing the butterflies, but they also loved all of the interactive displays, gardens, and walking trails. Being in Westminster for a week was great, but we definitely needed more time to experience all that the city has to offer! Next winter, we are going to spend two weeks in Westminster, so we can enjoy all the winter activities, too.
