My partner and I had some honestly urgent plans last weekend. It was our 1 year wedding birthday, and the both of us had a big night planned out on the town in order to celebrate. Every one of us had made nice reservations for a simply amazing pizzeria down town. It was really the same pizzeria where I advised her to marry me a couple of years ago. Every one of us were so gleeful for this long overdue night out! The Night finally arrived, and both of us showed up at the pizzeria ready to celebrating! Unfortunately, the pizzeria had a broken gas furnace. This wouldn’t have been an issue at all during the summer season, however it was right in the middle of a sizable blizzard. Without a finally functioning gas furnace the locale felt love a giant iceberg! Every one of us tried to get comfy, however without a finally functioning gas furnace it was close to impossible; Right after both of us got our first drinks, I asked to speak with the manager about the HVAC system. I clung to the hope that perhaps they could simply adjust the temperature control and turn up the gas furnace. Perhaps the heating plan wasn’t really broken. The manager came over to our table and explained that the gas furnace had broken earlier in the afternoon. They needed to do some intense rewiring. They had an HVAC serviceman by earlier when the gas furnace first broke, but that HVAC serviceman didn’t have the official wire for the work,. There was no way for that gas furnace to be fixed until the following afternoon. Every one of us ate our meals in the freezing cold, looking very forward to going home to our nice moderate gas furnace. Every one of us would at least be grateful for our nicely working home gas furnace.
My new summer job is starting to become a major hassle. I really thought it would be a simple and fast way to make some money for my college tuition. It turns out that I was wrong because it is one constant nuisance to scrub up after people. People seem to assume since they are renting a home and paying a huge cleaning fee, that they can just leave it in shambles. I have seen some rentals in pretty bad shape after a seven day period. These are mostly the family reunions or the parties that have more people than are meant for the property. It’s something that is hard to prove to charge fines, so we must find other ways. Something I was trained on was the cleaning of the Heating and Air Conditioning air filters and vents. It’s a good way to save money on the Heating and Air Conditioning service fees by doing this biweekly and not having to bring out the Heating and Air Conditioning specialists every month or so. So we always keep the heating and cooling systems running efficiently through the Summer, and are able to save a lot of money overall. It is honestly clear at times that most of these rentals never turned off the Heating and Air Conditioning system. I can tell from checking out the air filters. They are so disgusting and gross most of the time, that one only wonders if there were pets on location too. Pets aren’t allowed, so if I see any remnants of animals, I am supposed to report them immediately to charge a penalty fee! Since, they can’t monitor the extra people, they can at least charge for the pets.
I love the warm season so much that all of my friends are always making fun of me for it. I really can’t much stand ever feeling cold at any point in the day. When wintertime is here, our heating bill is off the charts since I run our Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C continuously, and nothing seems to ever make me feel that I’m warm enough. I will absolutely build a fire alongside the oil furnace if I have to! But, within the warm season, I am able to enjoy the heat plus wearing fewer clothes most of the afternoons. I prefer opening the window for a good portion of the day, but, I also enjoy having our air conditioning system on, as well. It’s just nice to have that nice option in our residence plus be able to cool off from the intense heat from outside. I guess I am a weather misfit, if there was ever a name for it. So, you could probably imagine how upset I was this month when my entire Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C device crashed dead. It was a real wake up call for me, since I couldn’t afford to install a modern heating plus cooling system. I asked the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C serviceman if he thought he could have it repaired, and he promised he would try his best. It probably would have been alright if I didn’t have it running as much as I did. He told me that he had never actually seen a Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C device so worn down in such a short amount of time. I must say that this really was a major wake up call plus I had to be smarter about our Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C usage.
I run more than a few buildings, but I am not necessarily the landlord, however, I am the building manager. So, I take over the greater projects such as overseeing new paint tasks, repairs and most especially Heating and A/C upkeep. There are a lot of people who just don’t realize the amount of work that goes into keeping a whole building’s heating and cooling system running efficiently. I must say though, that these older buildings absolutely need to watched, for they overuse the Heating and A/C at times, since their walls are thinner with more cracks in the foundation. I picked up a new building recently on my stretch of block where I manage for a single personal investor. It was a friend of a friend who asked if I could take it on for him. I didn’t think it would add too much extra work to my day, as it was on the same block as my other buildings. I had my Heating and A/C team of professionals in the the buildings doing the fall service cleaning of air vents, replacing air filters and checking the ductwork. If I was able to have all the Heating and A/C systems running efficiently in high season, I got a bonus, since the lower utility costs saved the owner a large amount of money! When they got to my new building, it was a disaster. It turned out that the last person to run the building tried to skimp in numerous ways with awful air filters, terrible ductwork and when they looked at the system itself noticed a crazy assortment of parts and pieces that didn’t match the Heating and A/C official system. Someone tried to take an easy way out and ended up really destroying the system. It was going to take a lot of money and time to repair the Heating and A/C in this place.
Last weekend, some friends plus I decided to have a nice night out in the downtown area. We all actually hadn’t gone out for a thrilling night of dancing in as long we could remember. It was our buddy Sharon who came up with the idea in the first place. When she made the suggestion, we all hastily agreed. We decided to go that Sunday night, plus it soon arrived! We made it to the club, however soon became super sweaty. The club had a broken air conditioner, plus the lack of a nice cooling system along with all the dancing was making us all much too hot. We danced for as long as we were able to manage, however the lack of a working cooling system was way too much for us to take on. We had to relocate to another club that had a working air conditioner! Luckily, there was a club a few doors down. This particular venue was super packed! It also had a great working cooling system, so we were able to experience a nice long night of dancing. All of us must have stayed at the club until 1 in the morning! There was no way we could have danced that long if it wasn’t for the wonderful AC in the building. My buddy Sally dropped us all off at our homes before driving back to her own place. I collapsed on my couch to relax for a bit before I decided to resign for the night. I had to turn the air conditioner on a little higher because my condo felt absolutely hot due to all the dancing I did!
Last year I had to go on a sizable trip for my work. It was only a 7 hour drive away, so I decided to drive instead of fly. I had an excruciating fear of aircrafts. It had something to do with the fact that I wasn’t in control, however every time I walked onto a plane, I was handing over my very life to a pilot that I didn’t even know. I did not like that a single bit, so I avoided it if I could. So I packed up all my necessities for the long haul, and went on my merry way. Only about 20 minutes into the drive I noticed that the AC was not working, no matter how high I turned it, it blew out nothing but hot air. I was extremely aggravated to realize I had to make a 7 hour drive without an AC. I had planned the drive to allow for 3 full hours of “emergency time” just in case I needed it. I decided to stop at a mechanic to see if they could hastily service the air conditioner, and the first mechanic I stopped at told me they did not have the respected air conditioner parts. I lost thirty minutes on that stop. It took him that long to examine the air conditioner system. The next locale was able to help me though. After the mechanic took a quick look at my struggling air conditioner, he said he could have the cooling system working in less than a single hour. I still had 2 hours left of “emergency time” so I decided to go for it. The mechanic had that cooling system working in less than an hour as he stated. I was then able to head out on my long drive.
I am so dreading our annual trip next week. Bruce, really enjoys to go camping but to me it is the closest thing to torture that I can imagine. He enjoys the mountains, or the woods, or anywhere in the middle of nowhere. There are no facilities or modern conveniences of any type. He can’t understand why I am always reluctant to go with him. The way I see it, we have spent a great deal of time, money, and effort to make our home as comfortable as possible. The idea of sleeping in a tent, on the ground, with no running water or temperature control does not appeal to me. I don’t like having to cook over an open fire, deal with bugs, and be subjected to whatever the weather happens to be without any way to escape the discomfort. I prefer having a roof over my head, electricity to power appliances, and control over the indoor temperature. I have a queen sized bed and definately prefer to wake up to it’s comfort. We have a recently remodeled the bathroom with a spacious shower with three shower heads. We even have heated floors. It is wonderfully convenient that I can adjust the temperature and air quality in the room anytime I want. Our HVAC dealer recommended them during the remodel and it was one of the best things we could have done. It has even lowered our utility bills because I know longer have to turn up the heat for the whole house to be warm when I get out of the shower. I can’t understand why he would want to go without all of these luxuries and rough it out in the woods.
We always vacation with a couple that we have known since college. They like to head up into the mountains, or into the woods, and choose a camping spot in the middle of nowhere. There are no facilities or access to any type of modern conveniences. I am always reluctant to go with them but my husband really looks forward to the trips. We’ve spent a so much time, money and effort to make our home as comfortable as possible and the idea of sleeping in a tent, on the ground does not appeal to me. I don’t even want to think about having to cook over an open fire, and deal with bugs ever again. I enjoy having a roof over my head, electricity to power appliances, and control over temperature. I have a queen sized bed with cotton sheets goose down pillows. I am no longer willing to “rough it” as they say. I have decided to ask the group if I can pick the vacation spot this upcoming year. I want to travel to the coast and rent a condo with all the amenities. Of course, the most important part of the rental will be the HVAC system. That way, we can spend our days lying in the hot sun and relax in the air conditioning at night. We will be in a bug free zone and not have cook with sticks and tin foil over a fire. At least if they let me pick our vacation spot every other year, I would only have to tolerate the great outdoors less often.
My husband and I have a few things that we disagree on, one is the fact that he is an outdoorsman and I prefer hotels. He enjoys going up into the mountains, or into the woods, and picking a camping spot in the middle of nowhere. There are no facilities or sort of modern conveniences for that matter. He can’t understand why I am always reluctant to go with him. We’ve spent a good deal of time, money & effort to make our home as comfortable as possible. The idea of sleeping in a tent, on the ground, with no running water or temperature control does not appeal to me. I don’t want to cook over an open fire, deal with bugs, & be subjected to the weather. I prefer having a roof over my head, electricity to power appliances, & control over my own comfort. I like sleeping the comfort of a soft bed surrounded by soft blankets and feather pillows. One of the most important improvements we made to our place was the updated HVAC system. It is awesome because I can adjust the temperature & air quality in the house with my cellphone even if I am not home. This is possible because we have a Smart Thermostat and it is fully programmable. I am even able to set up different programs for separate areas of the house. I offered to turn off the heat in one section of the house so he could feel like he was sleeping outside but he says it is not the same. He said he needs to see the stars at night and hear the sounds of nature. We will never agree on that but at least we totally agree on the improvements of the home we share.
My fiance loves to go camping. She likes to head up into the mountains, or into the woods, and choose a camping spot in the middle of nowhere. There are no facilities or access to any type of modern luxuries. She can’t understand why I am reluctant to go with her. We’ve spent a great deal of time, cash and effort to make our apartment as comfortable as possible. The idea of sleeping in a tent, on the ground, with no running water or heat just does not appeal to me. I don’t want to cook over an open fire, deal with bugs, and be subjected to the weather. I enjoy having a roof over my head, electricity to power appliances, and the luxury of climate control. We have a queen sized bed with Egyptian Cotton sheets and fluffy pillows. I don’t see why I should ruff it. I have a recently remodeled bathroom with a spacious shower and one of those rain forest shower heads. I like our state-of-the art kitchen with all modern appliances. I guess I am just too accustomed to having every day conveniences around me to spend time in the great outdoors. She says that it is comforting to her to sleep under the stars with only a campfire for warmth, and waking up freezing is only a fleeting feeling, I don’t agree with that statement at all. Yes it is far better to learn these differences about each other prior to getting married because living without modern conveniences such as a working HVAC system can make for some serious problems down the line.
