Last summer, I worked a temporary job while I was out of school. I wanted to save some money to pay my bills while I was out of class, so I figured it would be worth my time to find a good gig. The job required me to work at a call center where I answered calls from customers. The job wasn’t hard, and the pay was fair. However, there was one thing that made the experience intolerable. The a/c in the building hardly worked, and most of the time hot air would blow through the vents and leave me in a puddle of sweat. It was more than I could handle, and every day, I would come home totally sleepy and put off because I had been overheated all morning. After working there about three weeks, I asked my manager if the company would be fixing the air conditioning system anytime soon, and he told me that they didn’t have the money to do it at the moment. So, for about 2 more weeks, I stuck it out in the heat before quitting. I ended up working the rest of summer as a waiter at a steakhouse. I was on my feet all day, but I didn’t mind because I was finally working in a place that had a reliable air conditioner! Maybe I will make sure the a/c works well before applying to any other jobs in the future.
