Furnace won’t ever die

It is all over the news these days about how people are dying from this year’s flu virus.  It really is very scary. When my mom, who is in her 80’s contracted it I was really worried.  She lives alone so I decided to stay with her to make sure she was going to be alright. What worried me also was that she keeps the space heater in her room going all the time. I tried to convince her that she didn’t need it but she just got angry. When she was at her last appointment, before she got sick, I asked her doctor if it was healthy to leave the house so hot.  He recommended that we keep it at a lower temperature and just have my mom wear a sweater. Now that she is sick, she wants the whole house very warm and she is angry with me about turning it up. I am afraid that she will get very ill because she is prone to pneumonia. I stayed with her until she was better which took about a week. When her fever finally broke I was so relieved.  She really needs to have someone take a look at her HVAC system and see if there is a way to make her bedroom feel warmer but not 78 degrees all the time. Maybe they can install one of the mini-split systems that I have read about. She could control it by remote and hopefully feel better temperature wise too. It would be an investment for sure but it would also increase the value of her home.
