Not built for the heat

I don’t know how much longer I am going to be able to live in the south. At first, I was having a blast every single day. I was going on long walks with my dog, I was eating ice cream and not becoming super cold, and I was just happy. That was until I got the monthly energy bill for that month. I had recently replaced my a/c unit with a much older one because mine had broken down, and I didn’t want to spend tons of money down at the HVAC service company on a brand new one. Looking back on it now, that was a pretty dumb thing to do. The bill came, and I thought that I was being pranked. The bill just to keep the a/c running cost almost as much as my rent! I can’t shut off my a/c when I am gone at work, because my dog is back at home and I don’t want him to be warm and miserable for all those hours. I think my next best option is to consider moving back up to the north. Up in the north is where all of my family lives, but I really don’t feel the desire to head back up there. There is just something about constantly having to be next to a heated gas furnace that I don’t want to do. I think that I should make a decision sooner rather than later, because I really can’t afford another month of operating this a/c unit.
