A little over a year ago, I was able to organize my work demands to handle everything from home. Working from home has been a wonderful transition. I wasn’t sure I would like being so isolated, but I absolutely love it. I no longer need to set an alarm, dress in business casual and work set hours. I’m not forced to drive through inclement weather conditions to get to the office. I’m not distracted by coworkers, and I listen to my favorite music throughout the day. I sometimes dress in my pajamas, sip coffee and work in the middle of the night. However, I need to be as productive as possible. I’ve invested in some upgrades to my home office to make it more comfortable. An ergonomic swivel chair and good quality desk made quite an improvement. Adding a wifi thermostat and zone control to the heating and cooling system has made a huge difference. The wifi thermostat allows access to temperature control, fan speed and HVAC management through my smartphone or computer. I don’t need to leave my desk to make adjustments. It has learned my typically behavior and automatically caters to my preferences. Plus, the thermostat keeps me informed of maintenance requirements, energy saving opportunities, humidity levels, forecast and more. The zone control allows independent temperature settings in different rooms in the house. I can target heating or cooling specifically to my office. I can keep this single room perfectly comfortable without paying to maintain the entire, empty house at a uniform temperature. This saves me a great deal of money on monthly energy bills and reduces strain on the HVAC system.
